Choreography
I approach choreography as an interdisciplinary art centered around the body. My choreographic work often combines dance, music, visual arts, theater, and engineering, and is influenced by research in the humanities and sciences. In my choreography, I use these modes to explore the virtuosity of the human body, to critique current social, political, and intellectual ideas in our culture, and examine transcendent and spiritual human experiences.
Of great importance to me is making dance accessible to a wide population. This includes a commitment to presenting work in video format and in non-proscenium spaces. It also includes creating work that non-specialists can relate to, whether on a level of aesthetics, narrative, character, or concept. I believe that dance must continue to reinvent itself and make itself valuable for the populous, especially as social norms and cultural practices continue to shift in the 21st Century.
"The work, rich and multi-layered with ideas and cultural references, seamlessly progressed between numerous movement genres, showcasing Cline’s mastery of a fresh and unique stylistic fusion." - Philippa Myler, Seattle Dances (http://seattledances.com/2018/05/full-tilt-turns-twelve/)
